JEFFERSON VILLAGE

THE Jefferson village civic Association Board

The Jefferson Village Board is composed of residents and neighbors working to support our community. The Board volunteer their time and works hard to make the experience of living in Jefferson Village a great one!

All dues-paying members are eligible to be nominated, with Directors elected to the Board by the membership for a two-year term. The position is challenging and a privilege but requires nothing more than an ability to
work well with others and to be ready to lend a hand, no matter the task!

Here are your current represenatives in the community:

THE JEFFERSON VILLAGE CIVIC ASSOCIATION
Your local representation

The Jefferson Village Civic Association (JVCA) was founded nearly thirty years ago as a means of providing the residents a means to communicate to each other and to the county on matters both internal and external to the community.

The Association's mission is to improve the neighborhood by fostering relationships between residents and between our community and other local or regional organizations. We accomplish this through neighborhood events, information gathering, enhancement projects, and acting as a voice for the members and residents of Jefferson Village. This is possible through membership fees and donations from conscientious and generous residents eager to live in a welcoming community.

If you have an issue or concern you would like us to address, feel free to contact us here.
If you would like to contribute, please do so here. Any amount will be most appreciated!

The JVCA is governed by bylaws as voted upon by our members. The most current version can be viewed (and downloaded) here in .pdf format.
OUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT
A Support System

Our streets, streams, and schools all are affected by surprisingly different levels of government. The Virginia Department of Transportation is more responsible for the state of the street in front of your house than in the county you live in. Here is a short rundown of the different elected officials and government agencies that serve the citizens of the Jefferson Village Civic Association.
Jefferson Village resides within Providence District, one of the nine magisterial districts of Fairfax County and operates under the urban county executive form of government.

This is spelled out under Virginia State Code Title 15.2 Chapter 8.
FAIRFAX COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors appoints agency heads like the Police Chief or the Fire Chief. They also appoint the County Executive. They vote on the county budget and set the property tax rate. They also rule on land use, both commercial and residential.

Providence District starts in the East on the City of Falls Church border and follows Hillwood Avenue, Route 29 and stays on the North side of Route 50 until you reach Jaguar Trail. Providence also borders the Town of Vienna, the City of Fairfax and touches up against Fairfax County Parkway in the West. Merrifield, Oakton, and Tysons Corner are all in Providence.

Each district elects its own Supervisor. Our District Supervisor is...

FAIRFAX COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

Just like the Board of Supervisors, each District elects a school board member but there are also three at-large members. The School Board selects the Superintendent and votes on disbursing the money that the Board of Supervisors allocates to the school and its 185,000 students. They operate under the Code of Virginia Title 22.1 Chapter 2.
